The City of Greer is well into the design and development of the four ForGreer projects leaders promised to deliver over the course of four years.
City Council voted unanimously Tuesday night to authorize a nearly $8 million payment to Harper Construction, the project’s general contractor. That money will pay for the first few months of work to get the site near Highway 14 and South Buncombe ready for construction.
The Sports & Events Center will be about 200K square feet when it’s finished and will contain nine basketball courts, 18 volleyball courts, an indoor walking track, and a dedicated wrestling room – just to name a few highlights.
The contractor expects to be moving dirt on the site in mid-August, and the city plans to host a groundbreaking ceremony a couple weeks later.
Public Safety Training Center:
Construction on the Public Safety Training Center is on track for completion in spring 2026. The concrete pad for the main building is complete, cinder block walls for the 50-yard indoor firing range are up, and crews are working on the steel framing. Two levels of the fire training tower are framed out, and contractors are working on the third level.
When it’s finished, the center will provide Greer Police and Fire Departments a state-of-the-art place to train. Public safety partners from the region will have the opportunity to utilize the facility to enhance their training efforts.
Groce Meadow Road Fire Station:
This fire station will serve as a suburban response facility and will support the growing population in the Lake Cunningham area. It will house the water rescue apparatus and Quick Response Vehicle (QRV) medical teams. This project is in the very early stages of design.
Parking Garage:
The design work for the new parking garage is well underway. We do not currently have a timeline on when the city will break ground on this project.
